Introduction

As a pioneer in designing lifestyle products for more then 30 years, Russel Wright is considered an icon in the field of industrial design. His ability to create products which were both innovative and functional are recognized by many to be not only ahead of their time, but representative of the new vision for how the post World War II American family would thrive and prosper in the years to come. A true believer in the idiom, “good design is for everyone”, Russel, along with his wife and confidant Mary Wright, were driven to create and market exciting designs using materials and techniques never before imagined for entertaining in the home. Russel’s design have become increasingly popular with collectors of mid-century object’s de art and a number of past exhibits have focused on the broad spectrum of designs produced by Russel between the 1930’s until the mid 1960’s. For the first time, an exhibit will focus extensively on the products which brought Russel and Mary the sweet taste of monetary success: dinnerware.
